what students are saying…

The Write Like an Athlete course I took through Writing Co-lab was fantastic! The teacher was so engaging over Zoom. The class was so organized and well-worth the price. I'm still referencing the material as I write a month later. Thank you!

Brian Gresko reminded me why I love to write. His passion for craft is infectious! He held space for the class, in Essay Play and BAE '22, to explore, discuss, question, and learn from each other. BAE '22 taught me to be a better reader. Essay Play helped me overcome my fear of sharing early drafts of work and to celebrate the process. I can't wait to take another class with Brian! - Tiffany Yo!

I loved taking class with Sara. She offered thoughtful readings, generated inspiring discussions, and left caring, candid feedback on our work. Thinking of work through the lens of risk was a really useful framework and has changed the way I write stories. — Sam

Brian is a caring, kind, and intuitive teacher. In addition to being genuinely excited about writing and teaching it as a craft, he's responsive to questions and generous with his time. I learned a lot in the nonfiction class I took with Brian, and left with a deeper understanding of how to create emotional connections with a reader, follow the arc of a narrative, and choose details that move the story forward. — Luna Adler

Danielle Lazarin is an insightful teacher whose pragmatic and empathetic approach to the practice of writing resonates for both new and more experienced writers.  Working with Danielle I found writing muscles I didn’t know I had, and a fresh perspective on how letting the mind find its way to new ideas and getting out of one’s own way may be two of the most powerful tools in the writer’s toolbox.

I came in wanting to produce at least two chapters from my next haiku book, but instead I got the tools I needed to write an entire next book—one that is going to be challenging, but that I'm going to be really proud of. In Brian's class, I felt like I “leveled up,” learning creative strategies to organize and make my work more readable and interesting. I gained an excitement and enthusiasm for writing that I didn't have before - an energy that I plan to keep flowing now that the class is done! — Kristen Lem, author of Haiku to Fall in Love To

The class size was small and intimate and Sara Lippmann did a great job of encouraging us through readings, prompts, and workshops to confront whatever was dogging us in our own work and take a step back to see it again with fresh eyes. — CL

Thank you so much for the women on the verge class. I looked forward to it every week and found that, many weeks, it was the hour I was most fully relaxed and most my truest self...the hour I spent there was a balm. And thank you for exposing me to some women writers I had never heard of....such gems out there, what I don't know (which is, of course, a lot) always amazes me and I think "how did I never hear about this great writer before??" —Lori, a Writing for Women on the Verge student

I got exactly what I came for in Abeer's class - concrete tools to construct a snapshot of myself and my project for a residency application. Abeer was warm and supportive, and provided helpful and constructive feedback. As a woman of color taking her class, her informed experience and thoughts were greatly appreciated. — former student

I am really enjoying this writing lab! It's really giving me a moment each week to really look at what's going on with my thoughts on marriage, motherhood, longing for the past while trying to sort out my future. — Rachel, a Writing for Women on the Verge student

Sara is US. She knows what it means to do the work and to live in the work. How she imparts her experience and knowledge to us comes with compassion, but always with a drive toward making all our work better. — Philip James Shaw

Stephanie Feldman is not only a smart, perceptive, and spell-binding writer, she brings all of that to her approach as an editor. Her elegant, concrete suggestions will make you wonder Why didn't I think of that? and help you get where you want to go. — Deborah Shapiro
