The Lab

Writing Co-Lab’s The Lab is an affordable monthly accountability and coaching program designed to spark your creativity, draw you to the page, and keep you writing. It doesn’t matter your genre or level of experience, The Lab is about being in community with other writers online, both in real time and asynchronously, and committing to your art. The Lab is a place to experiment and play, form friendships with other artists, and develop your ideas from inception to final draft.

Upcoming Sessions

August 31 to September 25, The Lab Asia

September 21 to October 16, The Lab East Coast USA

In Collaboration With…

A free podcast about craft, culture, publishing, and community, In Conversation With… features authors and other literary community members in warm, intimate, and informal conversations about their lives and work. Hear how writers started on their path and what keeps them going, especially when the going gets brutal, and learn about the sometimes unseen community of people and books that inspired, assisted, and carried them through their darkest times. Episodes drop every two weeks.

Creative Resistance

For the first 100 days of the current authoritarian regime, Writing Co-Lab delivered a free message of encouragement, opposition, and commiseration from 100 iconoclastic contemporary voices. We are proud to provide the complete archive for when you need a reminder of why we write in a world that seems bent on destruction, and excited to have new pieces posting throughout 2026 to help keep you fighting and writing.

Coaching & Manuscript Consults

If you’ve taken a class with us, then you know that each of our teachers has an enthusiasm for writing, eagle-eye for detail, varied and deep publishing experience, and unique approach to style, structure, sentencing, and language. We’re a community-focused organization, which means our instructors are as interested in helping the artist as they are in helping your art. They will develop a one-on-one working arrangement tailored to meet your needs and priced to fit your budget.

What Makes Our Classes & Programs Different?

Writing Co-Lab is owned and operated by educator-artists who chip in to handle administrative tasks, which means that 80 to 90% of student tuition goes directly to the instructors. Our community extends beyond the digital classroom, with accountability groups, a free podcast and newsletter essay series, events and panels, and open mic nights.
